CHANGE Life Zambia (CLZ) executive director Father Frank Bwalya has charged that the MMD government under President Rupiah Banda has become useless to Zambians.

Commenting on the MMD threats to kill Catholic Diocese of Ndola treasurer general Fr Augustine Mwewa for likening President Rupiah Banda to Zambian comedian Chintelelwe of journey to paradise, Fr Bwalya said the attempted murder of Fr Mwewa should be condemned by all peace-loving Zambians.

"The attempted murder of Fr Mwewa should be condemned by all peace loving Zambians. What the MMD have started is timely alarming, it is a scheme to intimidate, repress and silence all the critical voices in the country. We are going to see more of this when we get closer to 2011," Fr Bwalya said.

"There is only one reason why the MMD considers to hold on to power. MMD has become more useless to Zambians and probably they have realised they are unable to change their bad leadership at the top."

Fr Bwalya said the MMD thinks the only thing they can do to remain in power is to silence the voices that do not support the inept and corrupt government of President Banda.

"They will continue identifying more targets, some of these targets are less known...will be killed without public notice, if they attempted to kill Fr Mwewa, how many ordinary people have been killed in this manner?" he asked.

Fr Bwalya said this is a wake-up call for Zambians to stand up and resist the MMD government.

"The attempted killing of Fr Mwewa is a direct attack on the Catholic Church. Therefore, all individual Catholics should realise that a person who tries to kill their priest would stop at nothing to kill them as well. It is time we should all stand up and condemn this act by the MMD," he said.

Fr Bwalya said there was need to develop survival measures to ensure that those who were in the church were protected and the church speaks on behalf of the poor.

"So as I have been saying, it is change or die Zambia. If we don't we shall not only die from hunger, disease but also they (MMD) will kill us," said Fr Bwalya.
