(TALKZIMBABWE) Party of amateurs now in tatters

Party of amateurs now in tatters

LET'S face it: every political party makes some mistakes during its tenure in power. Zanu PF cannot be spared from that. The party has made some mistakes, but on balance, the party has liberated the people of Zimbabwe from the colonial yoke. For a solid three decades the party led a relentless struggle against apartheid in Zimbabwe and neighbouring countries.

Many intelligent men and women had to leave their respectable careers and well paying jobs to join in a struggle that in most cases left them dead and their families impoverished.

Many intelligent men and women spent decades in prison fighting for the black man to have equal rights in a country that was theirs. Note that the fight was for equal rights, leaving the white man (the oppressor) with the same rights as the black person (the oppressed).

On April 18, 1980 then Prime Minister Robert Mugabe called for reconciliation and urged all Zimbabweans to work together for the development of the country.

That went on for some time and Zimbabwe managed to become the "breadbasket of Southern Africa" - something that Ian Smith (the evil, racist apartheid ruler) failed to do. Mugabe also managed to raise the literacy rate in the country to the top 90 percent ratio.

No other African country, postcolonial, achieved this.

Today President Mugabe is accussed by his enemies of "taking Zimbabwe from a breadbasket to a basket case". This is ridiculous. He made it the breadbasket in the first place and those who read history in reverse have themselves to blame.

When the MDC-T party came into being the country went down. The discussion of the reasons for this is beyond this piece. I will contribute elsewhere about this.

But, it is ironical that Zimbabwe's problems problems coincided with the formation of this amateurish party, and it has never grown to 'adulthood'.

One good thing that ever happened to Zimbabwe was the formation of the inclusive Government. Zimbabweans deep down wherever they are know one thing: MDC is simply not up to the job. One wonders what would have happened had they been left to govern by themselves.

When I hear the likes of Finance Minister Tendai Biti and ICT Minister Nelson Chamisa speak I sometimes wonder from what stone they crawled, and hope they crawl back to it.

They smack of hormonal amateurs who do not have a clue what they are talking about and are just using the rule of thumb to tag along.

With all the corruption and the crimes being committed by the MDC leadership ranging from rape to theft of mobile phones, one is so relieved to know that Zanu PF is still in power to neutralise these amateurs.
