MPULUNGU MMD member of parliament Lameck Chibombamilimo has said two ambulances worth K157 million have been procured using Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for people in the area. Chibombamilimo yesterday said the 4x4 ambulances were for Vyamba and Chitimbwa zones, which were far from the district hospital.

He said the move to buy the ambulances was aimed at helping to reduce the number of deaths that occurred due to the long distance that people covered to get to the hospital.

“After consulting the people and stakeholders, we found that people needed ambulances. The 4x4 ambulances are ideal for the Mpulungu terrain. They were bought for K157 million both using CDF, they are tax-free. They are almost new vehicles. They were got from Durban, South Africa," he said.

"We are grateful to ZRA because they are tax free. The ambulances will go a long way to help save the lives of people especially pregnant women, who at times use bicycles to get to the hospitals.”

Chibombamilimo said Vyamba zone comprised Vyamba ward which was about 40 kilometres from town where the district hospital is located, Chisha-Chinakila 81 kilometres and Isunga ward 191 kilometres.

“The Chitimbwa Zone comprises Katwe 75km, Mumila 108km, Itumbwe 120 km and Iyendwe 120 km wards,” he said.

He said he would buy another ambulance for Mpulungu Central.
Chibombamilimo said he did not expect the health workers to abuse the ambulances.

Chibombamilimo also said the people of Kapembwa mountain area did not want to move to safer areas.

“The situation is quite calm now. There was another earthquake tremor but people noticed it early from afar and left the place. Only houses were damaged,” said Chibombamilimo.
