SCIENCE and technology deputy minister Chrispine Musosha yesterday said he is not bothered over calls on President Rupiah Banda by those in the MMD to have him fired from his ministerial position.

Several MMD members, particularly the Luapula Province youth chairman David Chanda, asked President Banda to fire Musosha because his tribal statement was worse than the one former science and technology minister Gabriel Namulambe issued.

But when asked in an interview if he was bothered by the calls to have him fired by President Banda, Musosha said he was not.

He said he was appointed deputy minister by the President and would not blame people for expressing their opinion over the matter.

"Not at all, no I am not bothered. My friend, I have a job to serve the people of Mansa Central," he said.

Asked what he would do if the President went ahead to implement what the cadres were calling for, Musosha responded: "When the President appoints people to various positions, he sits to think, and certain times he consults...and it's not every time he consults. So those are his powers. So when he appoints, he says 'according to the powers conferred on me, I have appointed you to do this and that,' and if he decided to drop me, you see I shouldn't blame the President. There are times when you have a coach of a particular team...for dropping this and that player, that is the choice of the coach because he knows how well the game should be delivered."

Musosha said President Banda, just like late president Levy Mwanawasa, did not consult him to be appointed to the deputy ministerial position.

Musosha said calls by some people for President Banda to fire him only showed that they had little respect for him.

"You see, one thing and quote me correctly, the Presidency is an institution, and if we want the President to be behaving like a small boy, we are making a mistake. Let's all respect him, and by respecting him, I mean respect even his decisions, yes," he said.

Musosha said those who were asking President Banda to fire him were only undermining the President.

"Why don't they leave him to use his independent mind to do what he wants?" asked Musosha.

Recently, Chanda and other MMD members asked President Banda to act by firing Musosha because his tribal statement was worse than the one Namulambe made.
"What is he President Banda waiting for? Because it will show that there are more sacred cows than others," said Chanda.

Chanda said President Banda fired Namulambe for issuing tribal remarks.
Chanda also appeared on Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) television where he issued the same statement.

Chanda was reacting to Musosha who earlier said nomads who were non-Ushis wanted to take over the leadership in Mansa in Luapula Province.
