I am happily married –Lilongwe’s beauty Matofotofo

Miss Matofotofo Lilongwe winner Florence Banda has revealed that she is a married woman with two children. Banda who was crowned Miss Matofotofo in Lilongwe last Saturday disclosed her marital status in an interview with Nyasa Times.

“I am happily married to Noel Banda,” said the 27-year-old Marketing Executive working for Zodiak Broadcasting Station. The Biggy Beauty said her husband squealed with excitement when she won the pageant for the ‘big and fluffy’.

“My husband was very happy and he jumped. He was supportive,” said the mother of two children.

Florence scooped the Miss Big Matofotofo Lilongwe crown after she beat seven other contestants who took part in the pageant said: “I am just so glad that I have been the winner for Miss Lilongwe Matofotofo being the first and new event in Malawi.”

Miss Biggy Matofotofo Lilongwe said she is inspired to contest for a Malawi Matofotofo crown.

Florence who received K60, 000, a live goat and two free nights to lodge at Livingstonia beach hotel in Salima as the prize for the Matofotofo crown said the Biggy beauty pageant is “an African traditional way of defining beauty.”

Lwazi Mbowa introduced the event in Zimbabwe to defy d the stereotypes that the modeling industry had attached to supper skinny girls

Mbowa said next stop if Blantyre for Miss Matofotofo.

“This pageant is a platform to recognise Africa’s true definition of beauty and at the same time, celebrate Africa’s true tradition,” she told Nyasa Times.

She said the contest aims at dislodging stereotypes that for a long time had been associated with weighty women. It also aimed at abandoning the western concept of beauty which does not appreciate well endowed African women.

Mbowa said she is working on modalities to popularize the unique beauty contest throughout Africa.
