SYACHEYE Madyenkuku has said the MMD is so anguished and stressed about the PF-UPND pact because the alliance is a real threat to the ruling party.

Reacting to Southern Province minister Daniel Munkombwe’s statement that PF had no following in the province and that as a Tonga, he was aware that the UPND’s alliance with PF had caused mystification in the UPND, Madyenkuku dismissed Munkombwe’s remarks.

“The position that there is no PF in Southern Province is totally wrong, it is not correct! The PF’s presence is virtually in every part of the province and this is evidenced by the fact that there is not a single district in which there are no PF structures in all the 11 districts of Southern Province,” Madyenkuku said.

“In fact, if its true that the PF-UPND pact was not accepted in Southern Province that should have been good news for MMD logically and they should have been the last to sound that view that this thing is not acceptable because to them that should have been good news.

“The fact that they are so anguished about it and that the Vice-President is now making it his main platform subject wherever he goes shows that the PF-UPND pact is intact and is real. It is a fact that the leading party in Southern Province is UPND, there is no doubt about that but it is also correct that MMD’s position as the second largest party in Southern Province is threatened in this province, there is no question about that.”

Madyenkuku, who is also PF member of the Central Committee, questioned Munkombwe’s observations.

He said if the situation in the province was as Munkombwe claimed, the MMD would be rejoicing.

“Do you think it will be normal for MMD to tell us the weaknesses in the alliance so that we work on them? The existence of PF in this province is real.

MMD is threatened in Southern Province as a second largest party in the province,” Madyenkuku said. “What has happened is that we have combined forces very well.

The UPND and PF enjoy mutual respect for each other in this province and because of that we have decided to work together sincerely believing that this is the right way to proceed in fashioning a strategy that will bring the country in the right direction by providing it with a new government. And this is a real threat to the MMD.”

On the flood situation in Sinazongwe, Madyenkuku said the situation was completely out of hand mainly due to negligence on the part of government.

“At the moment Sinazongwe is completely cut-off from the rest of Zambia. There were two bridges last year that were washed away at two points on the Batoka-Maamba road.

On these big streams they put temporary bridges but during the subsequent dry season they never installed permanent bridges. As a result one of those bridges has now been completely washed away on Sialamba river on the foot of Sinazeze township,” said Madyenkuku.

“There is also another strip of road in Sinazongwe linking Sinazeze to a place called Chiabi; this is the road known as D 499. What happened last year is that the National Roads Agency dismantled between 15 and 20 culverts on that strip of the road at the same time.

They dismantled all the culverts saying that they did that so that they replace them all. But you know that logically you cannot dismantle all the bridges at the same time because you know that the reconstruction time will not be there before the onset of the rains.

“What they would have done was dismantle one bridge, replace it and go to the next and so on. The kilometre strip is totally inaccessible. We have warned time and again about the poor workmanship. This is why we are calling upon the people of Zambia to be very serious in their change on government.”
