SOUTH Africa's ruling ANC youth leader Julius Malema has vowed not to allow the country to be "run by journalists" and has not stopped singing his 'Kill The Boer' song despite an outcry by opposition parties in that country.
"If you are not careful of journalists, they will bring down the government. We will never allow this country to be run by journalists," he told a Human Rights Day gathering in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga, on Saturday.
He again sang his "Shoot the Boer" song and accused reporters of picking on ANC leaders and prominent black politicians.
Hundreds of youths who were gathered at the Barolong Recreational Centre in Mafikeng sang the song with Malema.
Earlier, they had been chanting struggle songs in the parking lot.
Fifty years ago, 69 people were killed and 180 others wounded in the Sharpeville Massacre.
Hundreds of black people marched to their local police station to protest against the need to carry pass books.
SHARPEVILLE STRUGGLE CONTINUES
Meanwhile, residents of Sharpeville lashed out at the Sedibeng mayor on Monday, saying very little has been done to improve the lives of black people in South Africa. The Human Rights Commission’s Vincent Moaga agreed there was a lot that still needed to be done.
“We are of the view that struggles of the people of Sharpeville in the 1960 are still real today and there is a lot of work to do to make human rights real to some of our people,” Moaga said.
