UNITED National Independence Party (UNIP) national women secretary Beatrice Kayuni has warned that her party will not give the MMD an inch to manipulate the election results in Milanzi Constituency.
In an interview, Kayuni said although UNIP had been campaigning in a Christian way in the past elections, they would not give MMD room to manipulate the Milanzi by-election this time around.
“That’s our seat. That’s why we even have a high number of councillors but if they think they are going to get away with manipulation this time around they are mistaken,” Kayuni said.
She advised other political parties contesting the Milanzi parliamentary by-election not to undermine UNIP because it was capable of causing an upset.
“We are confident we will scoop the Milanzi seat because the MMD has failed the economy of the country. So we are warning them that even in 2011 they should be prepared to pack and go,” she said.
Kayuni also alleged that former UNIP secretary general Reverend Alfred Banda had travelled to Katete with President Rupiah Banda to discredit the UNIP candidate Musa Banda. President Banda leaves Katete today after a three-day visit to the area to drum up support for MMD candidate White Banda.
The by-election in Milanzi is slated for April 29. The seat fell vacant following the death of MMD parliamentarian Reuben Chisanga Banda.
