SECRETARY to the Treasury Likolo Ndalamei has observed that there is need to achieve efficiency in contract management of public works.
In a speech read for him by Ministry of Finance permanent secretary for Financial Management and Administration Berlin Msiska during the official opening of a training workshop on contracts management organised by Zambia Public Procurement Authority (ZPPA) in Siavonga on Monday Ndalamei said the Authority under the new Act had the mandate to coordinate and promote capacity building and professional development in public procurement system.
Ndalamei said there was need to equip procurement staff with relevant knowledge and skills in managing contracts for works, goods and services.
“I am confident that by the end of this training, you will acquire the necessary knowledge and skill required to perform your work effectively and efficiently. Moreover, I expect that your knowledge will move us closer to achieving the objectives for which the public procurement Act was established.”
Earlier, ZPPA director general Samuel Chibuye said there was need to create capacity of procurement officers in government ministries and other spending agencies in line with the 2008 ZPPA Act.
Chibuye said giving capacity to procurement officers would help to bring efficiency in procurement in government ministries and other spending agencies.
