SENIOR chief Bright Nalubamba has appealed to the two paramount chiefs in Eastern Province to help reunite Nsenga chiefs in Petauke.

Commenting on the persistent chieftaincy wrangles that have rocked Petauke district, chief Nalubamba said Nsenga chiefs were lucky because the province had paramount chiefs.

“These chiefs are lucky because they have got paramount chiefs, they can use them to play their role to bring them (Petauke chiefs) together in a peaceful manner,” chief Nalubamba said.

He said it was important for the paramount chiefs to intervene in the chieftaincy wrangles.

“Let them use those authorities (paramount chiefs) to intervene in situations like this,” said chief Nalubamba.

Paramount chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni and Kalonga Gawa Undi of the Chewa are the two paramount chiefs in Eastern Province.

The Nsengaland which uses matrilineal system has experienced a lot of wrangles, some of which were resolved by the courts.

Many people in Petauke have said the wrangles had somehow contributed to the retarded development in the area.

Last week, senior chief Kalindawalo Mndikula said he had information that some people were illegally going round collecting money and maize in readiness for an installation of unknown chief in his chiefdom.
Chief Kalindawalo appealed to the Zambia police service to deal with lawlessness in the district.

“I have information that there are some people that are collecting money and maize from people and they are telling people that there will be an installation.

Now I don’t know who they are going to install in this chiefdom? The police have been alerted to investigate what these people are doing. Whatever these people are doing is criminal and I have observed that people do not respect the law,” said chief Kalindawalo.
