SEVERAL police officers in Southern Province have complained of serious anomalies that have occurred to their June salaries.

The police officers complained that some police officers only received K350,000 as their June salaries instead of their normal ones.

They complained that some officers were getting as little as K150,000 while others were getting as much as K7.1 million, a situation they said was de-motivating on their part.

They called for the removal of Inspector General of Police Francis Kabonde for failing to address the problems in the police service.

“It is really sad that our IG has turned us into beggars. How honestly can you pay K150,000 to an officer? And does this man want us to be thieves? Kabonde has really done us bad. Let him just resign if he has failed because he is a disgrace to the police. He has failed to look after his own officers, some are even getting K7.1 million and on the payslips they are saying over-payments must be reported. This guy Kabonde has failed us,” they complained.

The officers said they did not owe any institution money to deserve such treatment and deductions, adding that people in Zambia were no longer interested in seeing police officers complaining about their welfare.

“This ill-treatment will one day backfire. It has moved now from Lusaka and it has come to Southern Province. He Kabonde should tell us where our money is. Such deductions are uncalled for and we shall not accept. Is he telling us that our money is going to be used for another by-election in Chifubu and Luena? This is unacceptable. Let him direct his human resource director and the accounts to pay us our money,” said the officers.

And some teachers and health workers also complained of similarly strange deductions on their salaries, accusing the government of wanting to divert the money to the forthcoming Chifubu and Luena by-elections.
