MMD cadres on Tuesday evening beat up 70-year-old Overspill PF ward chairman Benson Chisanga for stopping them from removing campaign posters of Chifubu PF candidate Susan Kawandami.

Chisanga narrated at Ndola Central Police Station on Tuesday evening that MMD cadres beat him and threatened to kill him if he and other six PF members continued stopping them from removing Kawandami’s posters.

“Around 17:00 hours we were in Misundu area campaigning and putting posters of our candidate, Mrs Kawandami, and we saw MMD cadres in three vehicles behind us. When we finished what we were doing, we started heading back. As we were coming back, we noticed that Mrs Kawandami’s posters were removed and replaced with Frank Ng’ambi’s,” Chisanga said.

“We stopped and we also started removing Frank Ng’ambi’s posters and put back our posters. But when MMD cadres saw that, they were upset and blocked our way. I asked them why they were removing the posters and instead of an answer, I received slaps and I fell down.”

He said some PF cadres called for reinforcement to fight back.

“As PF we don’t believe in violence so we decided to go to the police. As we were going to the police we just saw an MMD cadre falling from a moving vehicle and we stopped, and put him in the car, some boys slapped him. He had an MMD chitenge on him and we brought him to the police,” said Chisanga.

But MMD cadres who were found at the police station said no one slapped Chisanga and that the person who fell from a moving car was a PF cadre.
