MPULUNGU MMD member of parliament Lameck Chibombamilimo has died. Sources at the Zambian High Commission in India confirmed Chibombamilimo’s death. The sources revealed that Chibombamilimo died at Apollo Hospital in India on Monday morning around 07:30 hours.

Chibombamilimo, who was unwell for some time and required immediate specialist treatment, was only evacuated to India recently when the condition worsened. President Rupiah Banda fired Chibombamilimo as energy deputy minister during a rally at State House last year.

President Banda accused him of disloyalty and vowed to follow him to his constituency Mpulungu and defeat him if he decided to stand for re-election.

Addressing MMD cadres who marched to State House last year, President Banda dismissed Chibombamilimo and Jonas Shakafuswa as deputy ministers of energy and science and technology respectively.

President Banda said instead of the duo being loyal to him and the MMD, they allegedly paid allegiance to PF and The Post newspaper.
He said since he was both the ruling MMD and Republican president, he would not tolerate indiscipline.

Following President Banda’s pronouncements, the MMD NEC expelled Chibombamilimo and Shakafuswa for alleged conduct likely to put the party in ridicule, contempt and disrepute.

But the duo filed an injunction in the High Court against the then MMD national secretary, Dr Katele Kalumba, restraining him from expelling them from the party.
