PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda and his government seem not to have any remorse over their attacks on donors, chief Hanjalika of Mazabuka has said. In an interview, chief Hanjalika said it was surprising that government and its leaders have continued to attack and accuse donors of things that were confusing and unreasonable. Chief Hanjalika expressed disappointment over the continued attacks on donors by government.

He said it was regrettable that President Rupiah Banda, instead of promoting dialogue between government and donors, was in the forefront to ask donors to pack their bags and go where they came from.

“Politicians must consider the poverty levels Zambians are experiencing before they can attack donors in a manner which is embarrassing and dehumanising, Africa has a problem of high levels of poverty and we need donors to help us, we have not yet reached their level of economic development,” he said.

Chief Hanjalika said rural areas in Zambia were the worst hit with poverty and under-development, adding that chasing away donors and pretending that things were well was a serious misconception which needs an urgent change of attitude towards donors.

He said it was unfortunate that government under President Banda seems to have no remorse over the attacks on donors.

“These people need to address the problems they think they have with donors. It is not good because we need their money; we have always told the President that we are ready to work with him but how do we work with him if finances for development are not there? How do we work with him if people with funds and other resources are being chased? Government and politicians need to change their mindset towards donors,” said chief Hanjalika.
