IN a major position shift, the leader of the Progressive Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ), Mr Raymond Majongwe, has described President Mugabe as a hero pursuing policies aimed at benefiting the majority of Zimbabweans while dismissing the MDC-T as an ideologically bankrupt party with no agenda besides regime change.

In an interview last week, the outspoken Mr Majongwe also dismissed the MDC-T’s chances of winning the next elections, saying it would be worse than expecting milk from a hen.

“They have no agenda, they have no programme. What if President Mugabe is out of the question, because apart from saying ‘Mugabe must go’, what else are they saying?”

Mr Majongwe said MDC-T had nothing to offer the people of Zimbabwe. He took a swipe at the party’s leadership for being insensitive to the needs of the people.

“Since they came into Government in February 2009, we as teacher representatives have only met him (Mr Morgan Tsvangirai) once, and they don’t even consult.”

Mr Majongwe praised President Mugabe for his principled stance on matters affecting the people of Zimbabwe, describing him as a living legend.

“He is a hero and no one will take that away from him. He has done a lot for the country and the continent.

"This man has left a mark in our lives that is hard to forget, and it will be naive not to recognise President Mugabe as a hero. He is a living legend and a great man.

He also lashed out at the undiplomatic behaviour of the country’s Ambassador to Australia, Ms Jacqueline Zwambila, who reportedly stripped in front of male subordinates whom she allegedly accused of leaking information to the media.

“When MDC-T got into Government they were supposed to immediately stop behaving like an opposition party but like a government.

"They created a lot of expectations and a lot of people, especially the constituency I represent (teachers), feel betrayed because besides being chauffeur driven, they have not done anything for the people.”

Mr Majongwe said the boycott of Cabinet meetings by Prime Minister Tsvangirai had no effect, suggesting that he could be taking instructions from outside his party.

“We now wonder from whose corner he is fighting. Why is he boycotting Cabinet meetings at this stage?

"The Prime Minister is being ill-advised by those close to him and it is time he starts making the right decisions.”
