AFRICAN countries need to depend on each other to enhance regional integration in trade investments, says Felix Mutati.
Speaking after touring MM Integrated Steel Mill in Lusaka’s industrial area yesterday, Mutati, the commerce minister, said he was delighted that the investment initiative by MMI had been accomplished within a year.
“Regional integration works and African countries need to support each other to grow their economies. We should not go very far to seek for investments. I am happy that MMI from Tanzania has employed 200 Zambian workers at this mill,” Mutati said.
He said the government would continue to follow up on the K3.4 billion investment pledges made last year so that they could be realised.
Mutati said the government would continue to improve the country’s infrastructure to attract more investment.
And MMI director of finance and administration Narendra Jain said the company had invested US$25 million with a planned US$55 million five-year plan.
Jain said MMI had a ready market for corrugated profile tiles, plain and coated roofing sheets in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique and Malawi, and would soon expand to Angola and Botswana.
