FR Frank Bwalya says he is overwhelmed by the response to the red card campaign by the people of North Western Province. Fr Bwalya said he was amazed by the popularity of the red card campaign in North Western Province saying people were clearly showing that they wanted change.

“For me as Change Life executive director, I am amazed to see the popularity of the red card campaign in North Western Province. It means that people are ready for change. And change is what we want.

People in North Western Province will come clear that they want change; the change that will deliver a people-driven constitution with renewed commitment to fight corruption, advocate for good governance and a Zambia where resources are shared equitably.”

In an interview when he visited Solwezi, Fr Bwalya said MMD strongholds would be the first to reject President Rupiah Banda’s government during this year’s general elections.

He said President Banda would be greatly disappointed with the regions that the party regarded as its strongholds.

Fr Bwalya said the President was banking on false hopes that the party had a strong presence in North Western and Western provinces because they delivered victory for him and the party in previous elections.

But Fr Bwalya said the two regions had changed significantly as dissatisfaction and dissent was slowly growing in people and in the coming few months the MMD government would find out the true feelings of the people.

“We are anticipating more expressions of dissatisfaction with the MMD mainly in the traditional strongholds of the MMD. Zambians feel neglected and betrayed. In the coming few months,````` it will become clear that more and more people are not in support of Mr Rupiah Banda’s government. More and more people will join the red card campaign,” he said.

“North Western and Western will be the first ones... in the forefront to reject MMD this year. It’s because people in North Western and Western Province cannot experience the benefit of economic boom that that Mr Rupiah Banda has been talking about because they are poorer now than they were last year.”

Fr Bwalya said the price of copper had gone up, creating more wealth for mining companies but there was little in people’s lives showing that the country was one of the highest producers of copper in the world.

And Fr Bwalya said President Banda would pay for embracing former Republican president Frederick Chiluba over the latter’s record on good governance and the fight against corruption.
