MORE than 300 people in Kalabo district defected to the Patriotic Front following campaign activities influenced by former UPND top provincial official Induna Imbwae and his group.

Induna Imbwae, whose names are Nabiwa Imikendu, said in an interview in Mongu last week that more defections from other parties to the PF were still coming in the province.

Induna Imbwae, who was flanked by other UPND defectors, Col Best Makumba, David Muzinda and Ted Chimbinde, said the response to the group’s campaign for the PF had been very favourable in Kalabo, Lukulu and Kaoma districts.

“We have dealt with our colleagues from UPND and some from MMD and ADD. So all these have defected to PF,” said Induna Imbwae. “In the UPND, the most senior officials in the district Kalabo have defected and we have given them the mandate to go and campaign and tell our colleagues how we left the UPND.”

Induna Imbwae said during their recent visit to Kalabo, over 300 people joined their league and that another figure of 146 was listed from Mapungu area of the district as those that defected to the PF at the group’s first meeting.

“Then we moved to Kalabo Boma, that was on Tuesday. That is where we addressed a large meeting at Kashitu Market where more than 300 have left UPND,” Induna Imbwae said. “Then Wednesday we were in Sikongo Constituency and that is where Induna Munganga, the constituency chairman for Sikongo UPND and his officials resigned from UPND at our meeting.”

Induna Imbwae said an MMD branch executive at Sitapa in Sikongo’s Liumena ward also defected.

“Some more are still coming,” said Imbwae. “We left the documents that they were filling so that they contact other members, those who are prepared to go also so that we have documentary evidence.”

And Chimbinde said it was shameful that some UPND officials recently spoke on Mongu’s Oblate Radio Liseli ORL denouncing the former UPND provincial executive members for joining the PF.

“When we left UPND, we never insulted anybody, not even calling names. We just left on our own,” Chimbinde said. “We don’t owe UPND anything but they went on radio, calling us names. They even went on radio, calling names on Honourable Inonge Wina.”

Chimbinde advised the UPND officials to focus on organising their party, whose fortunes he said were going down in the province.

“It is him, Hakainde Hichilema, who has pulled out but us we have remained in the pact,” said Chimbinde.

Muzinda cautioned that he had been in UPND for a long time and that it would only be proper for the party officials not to think of throwing stones because they were in a glass house.

“If you look at the same people we are talking about they have got a tendency of calling people names,” said Muzinda.
