IT has become clear that majority Zambians want Michael Sata as Republican president, says Colonel Panji Kaunda. Addressing a rally organised by the Kalulushi People’s Pact Forum, Col Panji said all Zambians who wanted to end abject poverty and the restoration of good governance must rally behind the Patriotic Front and its leader Sata.

He said it was sad that the standards of living for the people of the Copperbelt had continued to deteriorate due to bad governance by President Rupiah Banda.

“This region is the main stay of the country’s economy because of mining. Why should Zambians continue with a government that has betrayed them? People have been condemned to misery because of the corrupt regime of President Banda. You no longer see the benefits of the mining sector. It is time to tell Rupiah that time is up and vote for Michael Sata because he will bring the change you want,” Col Panji said.

He said people who refused to partner with Sata to fight the corrupt regime of President Banda should not be listened to because they were selfish.

Col Panji said members of the United Party for National Development (UPND) and other political parties who didn’t believe in selfishness must join the call for positive change of government by supporting Sata.

“People of Kalulushi, it is a matter of logic and principle. Sata is the most popular candidate among them all and he is not popular for nothing. You have seen what he is capable of doing; let’s support him and end this evil government of Rupiah Banda,” Col Panji said.

“ It will be a disaster to give the MMD another five-year mandate, look at your roads, look at how dirty your town has become and your children don’t have employment. Secure your voter's cards and don’t give your votes to this corrupt regime.”

Meanwhile, former UPND trustee Mwenya Chama said the party had been destroyed by greediness of the leaders and rampant tribalism.

Mwenya said he had resolved to support Sata and the PF in this year’s elections because the UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and other senior party leaders did not put the interests of the people first when they decided to leave the pact.

And former Mine workers Union of Zambia president Ryaford Mbulu said President Banda had failed the nation and it was time for him to leave the government.

Mbulu said the country would never see meaningful development as long as the MMD remains in power.

The rally was also attended by Get Involved Zambia executive director Fr Frank Bwalya who called on residents of Kalulushi not to allow the MMD to steal their votes.

Fr Bwalya said the MMD had become a common thief that had destroyed the nation and should not be allowed to be in power for another term.
