US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is expected in Zambia next week for the African Growth and Opportunity Act ministerial forum.
According to a statement by Department deputy spokesperson Mark Toner, Clinton arrives in Lusaka on June 10 for the forum where she will showcase the centerpiece of America’s trade policy with Africa and engage government, private sector and civil society representatives from 37 countries.
Clinton will also meet with President Rupiah Banda and participate in events that highlight her government’s initiatives to improve the lives of the Zambians.
The AGOA forum will run from June 8 to 10.
According to Toner, Clinton will travel to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia after the AGOA forum.
She will meet with Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete and Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi.
“In Tanzania, she will highlight our successful bilateral engagement, including a host of programs, including Feed the Future,” stated Toner.
“In Ethiopia, Secretary Clinton will focus on regional issues, visiting the African Union headquarters and meeting with AU Chairperson Jean Ping, in addition to bilateral meetings. She will also meet with civil society to draw attention to their innovative and enterprising work.”
Prior to her visit to Zambia, Clinton will go to the United Arab Emirates for a meeting of the Libya Contact Group, which is expected to discuss issues surrounding Libya and the ongoing implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1970 and 1973.
