PF leader Michael Sata says President Rupiah Banda lied about his nationality. Addressing a public rally in Nyimba on Friday, Sata, who called for a minute of silence to mourn the 35 people that perished in a road traffic accident before addressing the crowd, advised people to ensure that they voted out the ruling MMD in the forthcoming general elections.
“Where is development in Nyimba? Who has denied you fertilizer? It’s your own relative President Banda who is lying that I am Chewa from Gawa Undi when in Malawi they want him and in Gwanda Zimbabwe they also want him,” Sata said. “Your own relative has denied you the fertilizer, which was given to you by a Lamba late Levy Mwanawasa.”
Sata said he initiated a lot developmental projects in Eastern Province when he served in various government portfolios.
“I made Nyimba, Mambwe and Chama to be gazzeted as districts. When I served as health minister, I improved Nyimba District Hospital,” Sata said.
“What has Rupiah Banda got to show here in Eastern Province where he hails from? What can Rupiah Banda show here? What has he done?”
Sata said Eastern Province was lagging behind in terms of development because of poor leadership.
“There are no roads leading to chiefs’ palaces. The bridges are gone and your member of parliament can’t do anything,” Sata said.
He said once in power, the PF government would ensure that the Great East Road was converted into a dual carriageway.
He said MMD leaders who hail from Eastern Province must be ashamed for the manner in which they have neglected the region.
“What is so difficult to bring doctors and nurses to Nyimba? It’s now 47 years of independence and women are dying from pregnancy complications, what a shame,” Sata said.
“I know poverty because my father was a just cook so I know and understand your sufferings.”
Sata said President Banda was stifling local investors in preference for foreign ones. He said President Banda was more interested in foreign investors because of personal benefits.
He urged people not to listen to MMD propaganda against him.
Sata dismissed the MMD propaganda that he would send youths to Afghanstan once in power.
“The war we have here in Zambia is unemployment, poverty and poor education. This is the war we have to fight and win,” Sata said. “They are also cheating you that when he comes in power, Sata will make women to marry each other. Ask them when they come that ‘is Sata married to a man?’ I have a very beautiful wife, more beautiful than Dora Siliya. Wenye waho!”
Sata urged the people of Eastern Province to liberate themselves this year.
“You have to change and liberate yourselves,” he said.
