THE Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Zimbabwe has allayed security fears for Zimbabweans in Libya saying all its staff members were evacuated at the beginning of the conflict in the North African nation.

Foreign Affairs Ministry Director, Mr Edwin Mandaza said that there is no record of any Zimbabwean nationalsstill in Libya after they evacuated all their staff members and their spouses when the conflict began six months ago. “We don’t have any Zimbabweans in Libya,” he said.

“They were withdrawn at the beginning of the disturbances. Our mission in Tripoli was a small one – just six staff and their spouses,” he said.

The Libyan conflict has seen NATO forces bombarding the country and arming rebel forces that are pushing for a regime change agenda against the government of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.

NATO used a UN Security Council Resolution 1973 to illegally invade the North African country and thousands of civilians have been murdered in the war that followed after the invasion.
