MORE than 1 000 exhibitors are expected at this year’s Harare Agricultural Show with 12 international names having already confirmed their participation at the showcase.

The show, to be held under the theme “Celebrating Agricultural Growth and Promoting Green Business”, will see more than 1 000 exhibitors showcasing their products. Some stands that were almost complete by last Friday include the Global Agricultural Services where agricultural products will be on display.

At this stand a new fertiliser, Gatit, is likely to attract farmers as the product is said to be more effective and affordable than commonly used fertilisers.

An official at the stand, Mr Pondai Notice, said the fertiliser promotes the growth of crops.

Show public relations manager Ms Sibonginkosi Muteyiwa: “We want to celebrate with everyone in the agricultural sector as we are heading towards regaining our status as the breadbasket of the region.”

Scores of exhibitors from neighbouring countries such as Zambia, Malawi, South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo will take part at this year’s event.

“We have 12 international exhibitors this year compared to 10 that participated last year,’’ she said.

Some exhibitors were turned away for a lack of space.

“It is against this background that we have increased the capacity to more than 1 000 stands so that no one is turned down,’’ she said.

Renowned musicians are also billed to entertain the public during the showcase.
“This year we have invited renowned artistes like Oliver Mtukudzi and Sulumani Chimbetu on the entertainment side,’’ said Mrs Muteyiwa.

She said the increase in the number of exhibitors was a clear sign that companies and individuals as well as farmers were seeing the benefits of showcasing their products.
She said they had also refurbished some of the halls in the Exhibition Park where new stands were available.

“We have refurbished the Commerce and Nelson Mandela halls where we have put in new structures such as bathrooms and toilets to avoid congestion on old facilities,’’ she said.

Security had also been beefed up with more than 100 police details expected to be deployed in the showgrounds.

For the children, there will be entertainment in the form of the usual jumping castles and the ever-popular Luna Park.-The Sunday Mail
