MWANDI MMD member of parliament Michael Kaingu says he is hoping the PF government will not give his party chance to bounce back to power by working hard. In an interview, Kaingu who is a former community development minister in the previous regime, said if the Patriotic Front failed to meet the expectations of Zambians, then the MMD would bounce back to power.

"As to whether we are able to come back in 2016, as a party we are very active and to be active it means we want to come back. So we will do our level best to come back. We will work very hard and we hope that our colleagues will not give us an opportunity to come back because if they don't work very hard and they fail to meet the expectations of the Zambians, then for sure we shall bounce back," Kaingu said.

And on the violence that was being perpetrated by suspected PF cadres on some MMD members, Kaingu said it seemed as though constitutional office bearers were not working.

"Now it looks like constitutional office bearers are not working, the Commissioner of Police, the Inspector General of Police, there are no policemen anywhere to try and stop the people who are trying to disturb peace," Kaingu said.

Asked why he did not speak out against violence when the MMD was in government, Kaingu responded: "I love what you are saying but you cannot correct a wrong by doing another wrong. I think in a contemporary world that we live in today, we have to get focused. You are the youths who have something to inherit from us.

So if what you are saying it is right, you want us to continue with what others were doing. If there were people in the MMD who promoted violence, I don't think it's the time for us in the modern world to say ‘eye for eye'. I think it's the time for us to look at what is progressive.

"What was wrong in our government, not only violence but whatever was wrong in our government... corruption and whatever, must not be entertained by this government. We have to be focused, we have to move on. In fact, for me and I think it's everybody and to all the people in my party, we want this government to succeed, all of us.

It's not only for President Sata, it's not only for PF members but for all of us. We did our level best, we had our own inefficiencies but I cannot say all was good but we have moved the country to where it is. If the PF government can have men and women who can do much better than us, it will be to the benefit of all of us. For us to fight PF, it will be like shooting ourselves in the throat.

For us, really, our interest is to see to it that the country moves forward but if the people are going to perpetrate violence just because one man or two in MMD were rigid, I think it will be very unfair to themselves because time is going, it's no longer five years they have got, I don't want to refer to 90 days," said Kaingu.
