In a press statement released by the embassy in Lusaka yesterday, transition indicated strong positive signals for the German Government and the whole of the European Union as well as for foreign investors confirming the stability of the Zambian democracy.

"We welcome the commitment of the new government to the rule of law, to effective and concrete measures and structural and constitution reforms, combating poverty and corruption. Germany furthermore appreciates President Sata's assurance of fair partnership with foreign investors," read the statement in part.

It further states that the envisaged policies of the new government open up new perspectives for successful partnership.

"Germany will continue to support all efforts in Zambia (aimed at) strengthening democracy and human rights, effectively combating poverty and corruption as well as securing a social market economy, that is a market economy with a social conscience and with the people of Zambia sharing in the benefits of development - these are important objectives of the new Government which we wholeheartedly support," reads the statement.
