ZAMBIANS must stand up and defend the change they voted for, says Get Involved Zambia executive director Fr Frank Bwalya.

Commenting on President Michael Sata's threats to dissolve parliament and call for fresh general elections if opposition parliamentarians continue to allegedly frustrate the government's programmes in parliament, Fr Bwalya observed that the change people voted for may not be realised if the opposition frustrate government programmes aimed at advancing development in the country.

"As GIZ we are very wary about the attempts by the opposition to frustrate government programmes. We vigorously campaigned for change and the majority of the Zambian people voted for change," Fr Bwalya said.

"But the change they voted for may not be realised because of the opposition frustrating government programmes that are clearly non partisan but meant to advance development in the country."

Fr Bwalya urged Zambians that voted for change to support President Sata and ensure that the opposition does not succeed in frustrating the government's programmes.

"…But should that fail, we welcome the dissolution of parliament so that PF can have the required numbers in parliament. Yes elections are costly but at the end of the day, it's more costly on the Zambian people if their government fails to advance policies that would improve their livelihood," Fr Bwalya added.

He noted that issues of lower taxes, job creation and a new constitution may not be achieved in the current scenario.

Fr Bwalya further said some people that committed wrongs against Zambians were still in the MMD and had found solace in UPND in order to allegedly frustrate the PF government so that gullible Zambians may think those people managed the country's economy better.

"So we urge all Zambians to stand up and defend the change they voted for. Otherwise we stand a danger of our President being frustrated by these criminals," said Fr Bwalya.
