PIGG’S PEAK - A Form I pupil at Mhlatane High School who has been found in possession of dagga at the hostel has been expelled from the school.

It is alleged the dagga was found hidden under his pillow and he was caught after some of the pupils he shares the dormitory with complained of a strange smell that was being produced by the dagga.

After he was caught the pupil is said to have told the teachers that the dagga was given to him by one of his colleagues who does not reside at the hostel.

The size could not be established.

Principal of the school Simeon Makhubu said they have since advised the parent of the pupil to look for him a place in another school. He said after the pupil was caught with the illegal herb they called his parent and informed him that he should seek for him a place in another school as they do not have place for such people at Mhlatane High School.

"In December no one is suspended but we simply tell the parent of the offender to look for a place in another school when schools open, but we allow him to finish writing the end of year examinations," he said.

He said at Mhlatane High School there is no place for pupils who carry drugs as it is against the school’s rules and regulations.

He said they cannot allow dagga in the school as it illegal not only in Swaziland, but internationally.

"We no longer punish pupils who are found in possession of dagga in the school, but we now refer the matter to the police. The decision we usually take thereafter is that we do not allow pupils who have committed such an offence to return to the school," he said.

The principal said there are a number of pupils who had been found in possession of dagga this year.
