GOVERNMENT has relieved Choma district commissioner Nkolola Hazemba of his duties and has replaced him with Patriotic Front district vice-chairman Golden Sifunga-nyambe.

Confirming the dismissal yesterday, Hazemba said he has not officially received the letter of termination of his services as district commissioner and does not know his fate. He said he decided to hand over the office to the newly-appointed district commissioner on the basis of Sifunganyambe's appointment letter.

"Yes, I am handing over the office and going home because I've not been officially informed on my employment status," said Hazemba.

Hazemba was appointed district administrative officer for Choma and was later elevated to district commissioner. He was then transferred to North Western Province where he served as deputy permanent secretary under the MMD government.

When the Patriotic Front government came into power, he was redirected to serve as district commissioner for Choma.

Meanwhile, a thunderstorm has left one man with a broken leg and three houses extensively damaged in Choma's Mbabala township.

According to Hazemba who earlier visited the scene, three houses and some shops at the market had their roofs blown off by strong wind and a large tree fell on one of the houses.

"We have requested the Chinese who are constructing a road in that area to help us get the tree off the house," said Hazemba.
