PEOPLE should not be intimidated when submitting their views regarding the Barotseland Agreement of 1964 during the Barotse National Council, says a former civic leader.
In an interview from Mongu ahead of today's Barotse National Council meeting to discuss the way forward regarding the Barotseland Agreement, former Mongu mayor Charles Akende said everyone must be listened to.
He said the meeting should provide an opportunity for all parties involved in finding a lasting solution.
"People will talk and if anything, they must be listened to and these are people who feel this issue has been there for a long time. Whether you agree or not with the submissions, listen to what people want and what comes out of what people wanted. I think as an individual, people that would have wanted this thing (BNC) not to happen. We may say it's an opportunity to listen to what people want," said Akende.
"There is nothing like violence and if others think people will come out of that meeting annoyed, there is nothing like that because these are issues that we need to discuss," he said.
Akende said the presence of police officers and soldiers may raise speculations.
Akende said he expected good results from the two-day meeting because people were free and seemed to be happy.
