PARAMOUNT chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba people in Northern Province has died. According to well-placed sources at the Ministry of Health, Chitimukulu died yesterday at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka where he was taken for treatment.

"He was brought to the Renal Clinic at UTH this morning and that's where he died. I hope you know that at the Renal Clinic that is where they attend to kidney problems; so he did not even stay long there and he died," the sources said.

"And later we saw the finance minister honourable Alexander Chikwanda, he came. And even this police spokesperson, madam Elizabeth Kanjela came and saw the body. But you know, we can't go public on this death because it is supposed to be announced by a senior traditional leader; that's the Bemba tradition."

The sources said Chitimukulu's body was later in the day transported to Kasama.
