MMD presidential aspirant Pastor Nevers Mumba says late paramount chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba speaking people of Northern Province served the country exemplarily and needs to be mourned with respect.
Pastor Mumba who was on a campaign trail of Northern Province and halted his campaign following the death of the paramount chief urged Zambians to pray for the Bemba Royal Establishment during this trying time. He also urged Zambians to reflect on the service of late paramount chief Chitimukulu.
The chief died in University Teaching Hospital on Tuesday and the body was transported to Northern Province.
Meanwhile, Pastor Mumba urged the MMD in Northern Province to remain united as the party repositions itself to get back into government in 2016.
He said fighting and squabbling in the party would not help but would instead destroy it.
He told party officials in Mpulungu to put aside their personal differences and work towards re-organising the MMD party as they brace for a tough fight with the Patriotic Front.
Pastor Mumba said unity was what made MMD thrive in the past elections.
He has also advised party officials with inclinations to the PF to freely leave MMD rather than remain and cause confusion in the party.
He said that MMD could not afford to have individuals with two heads that could not decide where they want to go and where they want to be.
Pastor Mumba also said the opposition MMD needs a leader who would devote all his time to party programmes. He said the party needed someone not limited by parliamentary programmes.
He explained that successive presidents such as Dr Kenneth Kaunda, Frederick Chiluba and Levy Mwanawasa who were not in parliament managed well.
Pastor Mumba further said that President Michael Sata successfully organised the PF for 10 years because of not being in Parliament.
Meanwhile, Mpulungi District chairperson Edward Chele said an encounter with the PF would not be an easy one hence the party required a fearless leader.
He said Pastor Mumba's visit to Mpulungu had given them hope of succeeding again.
