PRESIDENT Michael Sata says opposition political parties in the country are speaking for the corrupt rich. And President Sata says there is too much corruption in the councils.

Speaking at State House yesterday when he swore in Ministry of Lands permanent secretary Daisy Ng'ambi, her counterpart for Luapula Province Anna Mubanga and Zambia's Ambassador to France Solomon Mbuzi, President Sata said politicians were supposed to speak for the poor.

"I cannot see a political party calling itself worth representing the poor people that goes and defends corruption. We as politicians, we are supposed to speak for the poor people but these opposition parties politicians are speaking for the corrupt rich people, it's most unfortunate," President Sata said in apparent reference to the opposition that went to meet diplomats over the three suspended judges.

President Sata told Mbuzi that his interest in France should be what was good for Zambia.

He said Mbuzi should not worry about the internal politics of the French people.

"As an African, they won't come to you but as Africans here you find that nashala neka political parties are going to these foreigners thinking they can assist. So when you go there, foreign affairs will have to keep you abreast. They will have to send you by courier, all the newspapers so that you know exactly what is going on in Zambia," President Sata said.

And President Sata said there was too much corruption in the distribution of land.

"If there is corruption in this country, it is more in the distribution of land. You have to go and do stock taking. There is more corruption in the councils, where you find even councillors are allocating land," he said.

"Let us revisit that law, your Commissioner of Lands is no exception. You are going there and having seen from outside, I expect that we should bring some sanity because today you find the law which I know when the land Act was enacted and I was in parliament. We said land will be for Zambians and when they say land is for Zambians and today, you go in the market you find there are people there who are not Zambians. Market is land," President Sata told Ng'ambi.

President Sata urged Ng'ambi to find solutions to the problem and that she had to tour the country.

Meanwhile, President Sata has urged newly-appointed Luapula Province permanent secretary to tour each and every district in the province.

"Madam you are going to the province, don't look at your age. I have so many difficulties in provinces. When you get to Luapula, the first thing you do, jump in your vehicle, tour each and every district. Tour all the chiefs and know the difficulties because once you know the difficulties, that will assist us. The development of any part of the country, you have to tell us what is in there," said President Sata.
