SOME representatives from opposition parties yesterday held a meeting with officials of the European Delegation in Zambia over the issue of three judges suspended by President Michael Sata recently.

The opposition party leaders who included MMD acting president Michael Mabenga, Heritage Party leader Brig Gen Godfrey Miyanda, UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema, ADD leader Charles Milupi, ULP officials and Zambia Direct Democracy Movement leader Edwin Sakala arrived at the EU offices around 10:30 hours yesterday.

The opposition leaders, who were accompanied by MMD treasurer Mwansa Mbulakulima and losing Lusaka Central MMD parliamentary contender Muhabi Lungu, first went to the ZCTU offices in Lusaka's Woodlands area before going to the EU offices.

The meeting with EU officials only ended around midday, after which the opposition politicians pledged to issue a statement over the meeting, which was closed to the media.

Mabenga refused to divulge what was discussed during the meeting but only said a joint statement would be issued by 14:00 hours at the UPND Secretariat on Lagos Road in Lusaka yesterday.

Hichilema, Mabenga and Milupi seemed to be in charge of the proceedings.
A check at the UPND secretariat established that the press briefing had not taken place and some journalists were found outside the office waiting after being told by uncooperative party cadres that there was no press briefing.

However, Hichilema and Milupi were said to be inside the offices having a discussion.
