MMD presidential aspirant Situmbeko Musokotwane (right) says party members should brace themselves for intimidation and arrests under the PF government. Speaking during the card renewal exercise for North Western Province in Solwezi on Saturday, Dr Musokotwane, however, advised the party to remain strong "to bounce back to power in 2016 because the nation knows its work".

He said the MMD was still strong on the ground and preparations were underway to mount a serious comeback in 2016. Dr Musokotwane said the party would not perform like most former ruling parties in Africa that disappeared into oblivion when they lost power.

He said the MMD was encouraged by the return to power of Ghana's ruling National Democratic Congress led by John Atta Mills in 2008 when it lost power under Jerry Rawlings to John Kufuor's New Patriotic Party in 2000 after only two terms.

"So we are here and we are destined to make history like in Ghana, we will make history in 2016. So let's prepare ourselves. We are going to make history by bouncing back," Dr Musokotwane said. "…Now, there will be a lot of intimidations, people will be arrested, people will be accused, we have to remain strong. Are you following? We have to remain strong. Some of the things that are done that we don't accept we must refuse. The issue of Zambia being divided across tribes we must refuse. The issue of people saying this district, whether it's Chirundu, whether it's Kaoma, whether its Solwezi taking them to other provinces without consulting us, we say what? No!"

He also accused President Michael Sata of appointing half of his Cabinet from one province and lying about following the biblical Ten Commandments by not fulfilling PF's campaign promises.

Dr Musokotwane charged that the PF's ‘boat' was at crossroads because President Sata and his ministers were pulling it in different directions by their pronouncements which had stalled development in the country.

Meanwhile, the event which raised about K43 million in pledges, was snubbed by many MMD councillors in Solwezi where only three were present out of 18.

Solwezi East member of parliament Richard Taima was also not present during the card renewal exercise.
