A-22-YEAR-OLD Cavendish University student has admitted to being in possession of obscene material. Edward Mbewe is in court for being in possession of obscene matter or things contrary to the Laws of Zambia.
It is alleged that Mbewe on August 3 had in his possession a laptop, namely Dell Inspiron, containing obscene files without lawful authority.
When the charge was read to him by Lusaka principal resident magistrate David Simusamba, Mbewe said he understood the charge and pleaded guilty to the offense.
Mbewe told the court that it was true that he was found with the said laptop containing obscene materials.
He said he had no authority to be possession of obscene materials. Magistrate Simusamba recorded a plea of guilt upon Mbewe's own admission and set September 4 for facts and sentencing.
In March, the court convicted and fined a former Zambia Centre for Accountancy Studies student Teddy Malekani, 21 for making and featuring in a pornographic video.
Another former ZCAS student, Iris Kaingu, was also brought before the court for making obscene cinematographic films tending to corrupt morals.
Iris, the daughter of former community development minster Michael Kaingu, is awaiting judgment scheduled to be delivered on October 15.
