NORTH Western Province minister Josephine Limata says she will not allow civil servants in the region to undermine her work by failing to monitor development projects.

According to Limata, some civil servants were underestimating her position because she's a woman and were not diligently overseeing works, especially road construction on three roads in Solwezi, which have inexplicably been stalled.

Limata said she would not take kindly to responsible officers who were not following up on contractors delaying development as it would jeopardise her position.

Limata, flanked by provincial deputy permanent secretary Douglas Ngimbu, expressed surprise that roadworks awarded to contractors on Lexus/Zambia/Chawama road, as well as College and Magrade roads, which were to be completed in four months, were still far from completion.

She warned regional officials from Road Development Agency and Rural Roads Unit that she would not accept incompetence from anyone under her supervision.

Limata alleged that it was possible that responsible officers who were not monitoring projects were sharing money with some contractors so it was difficult for them to demand accountability for delayed works.

Limata expressed concern that resources allocated to the province for projects would soon be reclaimed by the treasury if not utilized.

She however commended Solwezi Council for its ongoing rehabilitation works on 12 urban roads stretching 30 kilometres at a targeted cost of K5.5 billion funded from K2 billion local revenue.
