President Michael Sata was today stunned by hundreds of people who went to welcome him at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport when he arrived from the United States of America.

The President was returning from New York where he attended the United Nations General Assembly and also received the South-South Global Leadership award for good governance among other attributes.

Clad in PF regalia, the supporter joined Vice-President Dr Guy Scott, Acting President Alexander Chikwanda Justice minister Wynter Kabimba, Defence minister Geoffrey Mwamba, Agriculture minister Emmanuel Chenda and other senior government officials who were present to welcome the head of state.

At around 13:00 hours, the airport pavilion was filled with banner carrying PF supporters, sparking memories of the unforgettable 2011 campaigns and the elections thereof.

The cadres sang praise songs while waiting for the President who only touched down at 14:50 hours aboard an Emirates commercial flight.

When he alighted from the plane, President Sata paused for a moment and watched his supporters as they danced and cheered his arrival.

"One Michael! One Michael! Efyo twalelanda, ebuteko ubu (that's what we were talking about, this is the government), the supporters shouted as President Sata went on to greet service chiefs, government officials and briefly interacted with the supporters.

The head of state did not talk to journalists but cracked a few jokes with the Vice President before leaving the airport for State House.

After the President left, the supporters turned to Kabimba who is also PF Secretary General.

The supporters were only prevented from jubilantly lifting Kabimba by his ministerial security personnel.

Earlier Kabimba told journalists that the party will soon announce the adopted candidate for the forthcoming Mufumbwe by-election.

He said it was not true that the elections committee had adopted former earlier member of parliament Elliot Kamondo instead of Stephen Masumba who relinquished his position as Local government deputy minister before resigning from MMD to join the ruling party.

"There is no preferred candidate for Mufumbwe and the adopted candidate will be announced once the selection process, which is going very well is concluded. We do not have primary elections in this party," said Kabimba.
