THE MMD in Mambwe district says there is no way its former Malambo member of parliament Maxwell Mwale can stand on UPND ticket in the forthcoming by-election.

Commenting on reports that UPND wants Mwale to stand on its ticket, district chairperson Zephaniah Kaleya said the people of Malambo want Mwale to re-contest the seat on the MMD ticket.

Kaleya said Mwale was MMD and would continue representing the constituency even after the by-election.

He said Mwale was just confused with the nullification of his election.

"Hon Mwale knows that his big family is here and the party is going to parade him as MMD candidate immediately the time for nomination comes," Kaleya said.

He said the people of Malambo were more important that Mwale's decision.

"Mwale knows that he has a big family in Malambo and he must come back and continue being an MMD member here," Kaleya said.

Asked whether he had contacted Mwale to confirm his links with UPND, Kaleya said he had not but that he had received a lot of messages from people of Malambo who want the immediate past member of parliament to stand on MMD ticket.

"I think it was like, you know when someone is in suspense, you know court issues, he might have felt lonely. There is no one to look after him but us as people of Malambo are assuring him that he has a home," Kaleya said.

He said the MMD had not received any resignation letter from Mwale.
