POLICE in Katete on Sunday released four PF officials who were detained on Saturday after the beat and stripped naked some District Executive Committee members that were holding a meeting at a named lodge.
According to PF sources, the cadres were released on Sunday. When asked to confirm reports on the release of the cadres, district chairperson Joseph Duma Makukula referred all queries to provincial chairperson Lameck Mangani.
"I am not allowed to issue any statement at the moment so you can contact the provincial chairperson," Makukula said.
By press time Mangani's mobile phones were off.
Mangani is expected to hold a meeting with PF officials in Katete to iron out their differences.
Some district executive committee members were allegedly whipped by PF cadres after they attempted to hold a meeting to look at various issues affecting the party in the district.
Sources say Makukula refused to attend the meeting and reported to Mangani that his colleagues wanted to remove him from his position.
Mangani then advised that the meeting should not go ahead and promisedto have an audience with the party officials.
Before the party officials dispersed, some party cadres emerged and started whipping them.
Some officials like district secretary Moses Phiri were stripped naked and allegedly robbed of their monies by the cadres.
Katete police later detained the culprits.
On Sunday, Makukula told The Post that he was having an audience with the officer in-charge at Katete police station over the matter.
Some PF members attributed the party's embarrassing defeat during the previous Mkaika by-election to the confusions that have rocked the ruling party.
