Mkushi North Patriotic Front member of parliament Ingrid Mphande says people have misunderstood the removal of consumer subsidies on fuel and maize.
In an interview, Mphande said the government meant well by removing consumer subsidies on maize and fuel but most people had misunderstood the move taken by the PF government.
Mphande said the previous regime's continued subsidising of the two commodities only benefited the elite in society.
She said people needed to understand and appreciate that the removal of consumer subsidies on fuel and maize would have long-term benefits on the majority Zambians.
Mphande said she would take time to explain to the electorate the long-term benefits that would accrue from the removal of consumer subsides on fuel and maize.
