THE AfricaInvestor infrastructure projects summit has conferred the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) with the regional project of the year award based on the Kasumbalesa border post project.
According to a statement issued yesterday by Zambian Border Crossing Company Limited (ZipBCC) which is constructing the Kasumbalesa Border Post under Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis, DBSA’s Mike Kagwa and ZipBCC’s Eitan Dvir received the award. The DBSA finances the project.
“The annual AfricaInvest infrastructure summit held from 21st to 22nd October, 2010, is a calendar event and premier business development forum attended by over 200 infrastructure investors, project developers, project sponsors and PPP public private partnership policy makers,” ZipBCC stated. “The Kasumbalesa project is designed based on a unique border model developed by ZipBCC, with the installation of a state of the art IT system, aimed to: reduce border congestion, to fast track all processes and procedures taking place at the border facilities whether by government authorities or any other authorities or private operators active at the regional borders and to improve the interface between border users and border posts.”
ZipBCC stated that improving the border facilities, shortening the time required to clear the border and improving regional trade are the main objectives behind this newly introduced approach.
“ZipBCC’s unique approach is gaining momentum and is now developing into a role model for other border posts operated in entire region,” stated ZipBCC.
