LETTERS 2: Mining Contracts
Former information ministerBy Kombe
Friday April 13, 2007 [02:00]
The chief government spokesperson, member of Parliament, and Minister of Information and Broadcasting and Zambia’s special envoy to mineral-rich Katanga Province in DRC has misinformed and lied to the people of Zambia on his recent Katanga saga.
Despite being the only Zambian with so many jobs; VJ would not tell the truth at least for once. No wonder there’s such an aggressive objection to the enactment of the Freedom of the Information Bill in Zambia. Now, we know.
Apart from lies that we received, there is some actions in Congo worth reporting for VJ. The Congolese government and NGOs are taking steps to revisit, revoke, renegotiate or cancel mining contracts that are unfavorable to Congo. That is good news and something to energise our leaders to confront Zambia’s unfavorable investors. VJ lost the confidence of the general public and became a liability to the government and President Mwanawasa.
