CHIEF government spokesperson Lieutenant General Ronnie Shikapwasha has warned that the nation risks inviting a curse upon itself because of what he termed insults targeted at President Rupiah Banda.

Officiating at the Burning Bush Ministries end of year conference at Lusaka’s Avondale Shopping Complex on Saturday, Lt Gen Shikapwasha warned that every leader was appointed by God and therefore all those who disrespected them disoebyed God.

“Zambian citizens should stop slamming insults at the head of state. There’s no need to speak evil and insult the President. Newspaper organizations that insult the President bring a curse to their country. It is ourselves who are going to suffer because God says that all leaders are appointed by Him,” Lt Gen Shikapwasha said. “If your leader cannot speak well, you should pray for him and not insult your President. Leaders are indeed appointed by God no matter how they look on their face. I want to tell you that every leader is appointed by God, no matter their looks or background. It is therefore very dangerous to disrespect our leaders.”

Quoting from the Bible, Lt Gen Shikapwasha warned that whoever resisted authorities resisted God’s ordinances.

“The holy Bible clearly warns us in the book of Romans chapter 13:1-3, and I quote ‘Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities for there is no authority except from God and authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the ordinances of God and those who resist will bring judgment upon themselves’,” Lt Gen Shikapwasa read.

He called on the Church to take up its position in the governance of the nation by supporting the government of the day.

“The Church should not be a critic to the government but should provide valuable spiritual advice and support the political leadership of the country,” said Lt Gen Shikapwasa.
