MINISTRY of Education permanent secretary, Lillian Kapulu says that Zambia will not be able to develop without supporting the education sector.

Speaking during the official opening of a BookWorld store in Lusaka on Friday, Kapulu congratulated BookWorld for procuring the warehouse building for spreading its reach further than Lusaka.

“Education is the main driving engine of development and is one of government’s top priorities. We cannot talk of economic development without developing the education sector,” said Kapulu.

BookWorld chairman, Bharat Nayee, said BookWorld had purchased the warehouse facility two years ago and it had taken them two years to get the warehouse fully operational to their intended standards.

“It took us two years to get the warehouse up and running. It is a distribution centre for all our nine outlets through out Zambia as they are all linked to the warehouse through a fully computerised system,” Nayee said.

Nayee said BookWorld was not just a single store on Cairo road but had stores throughout Lusaka, with two in Livingstone and one in Kitwe supplying a wide range of books especially relating to tertiary education.

“We have the capacity to supply books to the whole of Zambia from any part of the world. BookWorld is a growing company and helps to provide employment for Zambians. And we will provide more jobs with the more shops we open. If there is demand for books, we will supply,” said Nayee.
