THE MDC-T party, through its spokesman Nelson Chamisa, has admitted that the land reform programme is a serious national matter, which is irreversible. The party has shied away from making such a statement since they signed the Global Political Agreement in 2008 to that effect.

Chamisa made the remarks at the Quill Speak in Harare on Thursday while addressing journalists on the progress and challenges faced by the inclusive Government. The Quill Speak is a social forum for journalists and political, business and economic leaders which discusses issues of national interest.

"The land reform programme is irreversible. It cannot be reversed because it is an important national issue," said Chamisa who is also the Minister of Information Communication Technology.

The MDC-T has been highly critical of the programme since its inception in 2000, with some of the party’s leaders like Fidelis Mhashu publicly promising to return land to white former farmers.

Speaking at the same occasion on Thursday, the director of the Federation of National Governmental Organisations, Goodson Nguni, accused the MDC-T of entering the inclusive Government to fight for the interests of former white commercial farmers.

"The MDC-T is in the inclusive Government as part of the regime change agenda.

"Zanu PF is in the inclusive Government to build the nation. The MDC is a party that looks after the interests of the white commercial farmers. That is why it was created," he said.

Nguni said the partial disengagement of the MDC-T from the inclusive Government last year when Roy Bennett was indicted for trial at the High on the treason charges showed what their agenda was.
