(TALKZIMBABWE) Editors ‘bribed’ by Tsvangirai named

Editors ‘bribed’ by Tsvangirai named

A source who claims to be privy to the alleged bribery of local private newspapers by Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, Gabriel Chaibva has named three editors whom he alleges received money in return to give favourable coverage to the MDC-T president and his party.

Chaibva alleges that The Standard editor, Nevanji Madanhire (above main pic), Newsday editor, Brian Mangwende (above inset) and Daily News editor, Stanley Gama received money from the Prime Minister’s office to give favourable coverage to Tsvangirai and his MDC-T party.

Another source, Goodson Nguni, who says he had been closely monitoring the scam, said it is not a secret that the Prime Minister’s office is working in cahoots with private media editors and some western agents and alleged that a fund to co-ordinate the state of affairs of the private media has been established.

It is alleged that the Prime Minister’s spokesperson, Luke Tamborinyoka and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Jameson Timba, are the key point-men in the whole saga.

It is alleged that strategic meetings were held in sports and golf clubs dotted around Harare and in surrounding towns.

The two sources say they will provide evidence if the named editors try to deny the stories or initiate some legal action.

Attempts by The Zimbabwe Guardian to reach the three editors failed as they were said to be out of the office.

The prime minister’s office on Tuesday refused to comment on the saga, referring all questions to the sopkesman Tamborinyoka who was unreachable at the time of going to press.

(HERALD) MDC-T a violent party: Nguni

MDC-T a violent party: Nguni
Friday, 27 May 2011 22:33
Herald Reporter

MDC-T is bent on perpetrating violence against Zimbabweans, ZIMBABWE Today publisher and political analyst Mr Goodson Nguni has said.

Speaking at the launch of a monthly magazine portraying MDC-T political violence activities on Thursday, Mr Nguni said MDC-T had former Rhodesian elements who schooled them on violence against their own people.

The magazine titled: "Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T): The Culture of Violence", has pictures and stories duplicated from both public and private newspapers on MDC-T violence.

About 150 000 copies of the magazines have been printed and would be distributed for free.

Fifty thousand are in English, 50 000 in French and another 50 000 in Portuguese.
Mr Nguni said they wanted to distribute the magazines throughout Africa, including French and Portuguese-speaking countries.

Mr Nguni accused the MDC-T of deceiving the world saying Zanu-PF was violent when in actual fact it is them "hence the need to set the record straight".

"We have decided to document the stories that have been written and pictures taken on MDC-T violent actions in order to set the record straight.

"They have been going around telling the world that Zanu-PF was responsible for political violence when in actually fact it is them.

"We felt there was a need to answer some of the things they have been saying about Zanu-PF.

"They have been saying the war veterans are raping women and to me that is declaring war against the war veterans who brought them independence," Mr Nguni said.

(TALKZIMBABWE) Nguni, not Maguwu to head KP focal group

Nguni, not Maguwu to head KP focal group

MEMBERS of the Civil Society Coalition have nominated Mr Goodson Nguni of the Federation of Non-Governmental Organisations as the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme local focal point for the sector, not Farai Maguwu, as online media reports had suggested.

A report by pirate radio station, SW Radio Africa, suggested on Wednesday that: "Maguwu will be heading the recently formed 'Local Focal Point' group of civic society organisations, tasked with monitoring the human rights standards of the diamond industry."

It has, however, emerged that Mr Nguni will chair a 13-member technical committee that will assist KP-appointed monitor, Abbey Chikane.

The focal person will, with full independence, present facts and support Mr Chikane in performance of his duties on the overall implementation of the Joint Work Plan.

The Coalition, blocked Mr Maguwu's appointment, saying he was facing criminal charges, so was unfit to lead the Local Focal Point group.

The Coalition also said it wanted a technical committee because it did not think a single person could handle the task; especially one who was as compromised as Mr Maguwu.

The National Association of Non-Governmental Organisations tried in vain to unilaterally get Mr Maguwu to represent civil society.

Other NGOs rejected this. Nango then boycotted yesterday’s meeting which appointed Mr Nguni.

A letter dated August 18 inviting Nango to attend the meeting read: "Your failure to attend this meeting means that the Civil Society Coalition members who will be available shall go ahead in selecting the focal person or committee that will work with the KP monitor and the Government of Zimbabwe."

At its recent meeting in Russia, the World Diamond Council said civic bodies should come up with a point person to assist Government and the KP.

The NGOs will today formally submit Mr Nguni’s name and those nominated to sit on the technical committee to Government.

The coalition of NGOs took a swipe at Nango for deliberately trying to provoke Government by appointing Maguwu. Yesterday Justice and Legal Affairs Minister Patrick Chinamasa dismissed Maguwu’s nomination, equating him to "a tortoise on the wall".

In an interview, he said: "No one knew of Farai Maguwu until Mr Abbey Chikane was coming for Kimberley Process visits.

"If you see a tortoise on top of a wall, look for its owner."

He said it was known that Maguwu worked for countries that did not want Zimbabwe to sell its diamonds.

(TALKZIMBABWE) Land reform irreversible, says MDC-T

Land reform irreversible, says MDC-T

THE MDC-T party, through its spokesman Nelson Chamisa, has admitted that the land reform programme is a serious national matter, which is irreversible. The party has shied away from making such a statement since they signed the Global Political Agreement in 2008 to that effect.

Chamisa made the remarks at the Quill Speak in Harare on Thursday while addressing journalists on the progress and challenges faced by the inclusive Government. The Quill Speak is a social forum for journalists and political, business and economic leaders which discusses issues of national interest.

"The land reform programme is irreversible. It cannot be reversed because it is an important national issue," said Chamisa who is also the Minister of Information Communication Technology.

The MDC-T has been highly critical of the programme since its inception in 2000, with some of the party’s leaders like Fidelis Mhashu publicly promising to return land to white former farmers.

Speaking at the same occasion on Thursday, the director of the Federation of National Governmental Organisations, Goodson Nguni, accused the MDC-T of entering the inclusive Government to fight for the interests of former white commercial farmers.

"The MDC-T is in the inclusive Government as part of the regime change agenda.

"Zanu PF is in the inclusive Government to build the nation. The MDC is a party that looks after the interests of the white commercial farmers. That is why it was created," he said.

Nguni said the partial disengagement of the MDC-T from the inclusive Government last year when Roy Bennett was indicted for trial at the High on the treason charges showed what their agenda was.
