THE NGOCC has challenged policy makers and other stakeholders to engage in budget analysis and tracking of national resources to guarantee equal allocation between men and women.

Opening a four-day gender budgeting training workshop in Kabwe on Monday, NGOCC board treasurer Gloria Munkombwe said gender-responsive budgets were critical in ensuring that men and women benefit from national resources.

β€œIt is imperative that policy makers and other stakeholders engage in budget analysis and tracking of national resources from the gender perspective and advocate for equal allocation of such resources to both men and women,” she said.

Munkombwe said the NGOCC would continue championing the empowerment of women through its vision of being a dynamic and sustainable civil society organisation leading the struggle against gender inequalities and injustice.

Munkombwe noted that the training had come at an appropriate time, given the fact that Zambia was implementing the Fifth National Development Plan (FNDP), the Vision 2030, while the Sixth National Development Process (SNDP) was being developed too.

β€œI have no doubt that participants after this workshop shall be able to effectively monitor and evaluate the national budget in relation to the national development plans and the Vision 2030. NGOCC has looked forward to such a training as a way of collaborating with stakeholders in order to advance gender responsive budgeting in Zambia,” she said.

And Kabwe deputy mayor Charitable Mwenda hailed NGOCC for initiating the workshop, which she said, would enable policy makers contribute towards the implementation of budgets in a positive manner.

Mwenda urged participants to debate actively in the workshop so that their input adds value to the budgeting process in Zambia.
