MICHAEL Sata says Zambia could have developed had Frederick Chiluba continued to imp-lement some programmes initiated by Dr Kenneth Kaunda. Featuring on Kasama’s Radio Mano, PF leader Sata said the country continued to be poor because the Republican presidents have had difficulty with continuity.

“Our biggest problem in Zambia is continuity. Once we do that things in Zambia will be different. Kaunda developed roads to Nakonde, Chipata, Livingstone. If former president Chiluba had directed his efforts towards continuing, we would be different,” Sata said on Monday.

“Kenneth Kaunda built Samora Machel Air Base, a lot of professionals in the region would be trained here. That would have brought a lot of money. But it is because Chiluba had a lazo thief mentality.”

He bemoaned the poor state of the roads in the area. On the exclusion of the 50 per cent plus one clause from the new constitution, Sata said there was too much crookedness in the government.

“We could have had the 50 per cent plus one if all the money spent on Rupiah Banda’s trips was spent on this particular undertaking referendum,” Sata said.

He said the country’s bumper harvest had not led to a reduction in mealie meal prices.

Sata also said there was no MMD to talk about because it had been taken over by Unipists, like President Banda.

And Chingola PF parliamentarian Dr Joseph Katema said patients at Kasama General Hospital risked getting new infections because the machine used for washing dirty linen at the health center was faulty.

Dr Katema said it was sad to see most of the health centres in the area in a sorry state.

“And they are getting what they call mobile hospitals. Now if they conduct an operation on you and they ask you to come for a review are you going to find that hospital? Where we went, we found a mobile hospital on a bicycle,” said Dr Katema.

Lusaka lawyer Edgar Lungu said the PF had withdrawn plans to petition the Mpulungu by-election results because the general elections were nearing.

Kasama Central PF parliamentarian Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba said the party was ready for next year’s general election.
