ZAMBIANS are hungry for change of leadership next year, says chief Hanjalika of Mazabuka district. And chief Hanjalika says pursuing PF leader Michael Sata in connection with the US $100,000 now is politically engineered.
In an interview, chief Hanjalika said it was possible that next year Zambia would be under a new leadership and government with or without the PF-UPND pact. He said the desire for change was evident enough from debates going on in the country.
"I am not a politician but looking at what the people are saying, even here in rural areas, change is possible. It's unavoidable and I am seeing that coming next year," he said.
Chief Hanjalika said the government’s failure to convene an urgent referendum to consider the 50 per cent plus one vote as the presidential threshold had annoyed Zambians.
"People are registering as voters and what they are saying is that they are not happy with the current government, especially that it has failed to consider the urgency of the referendum on the 50 per cent plus one vote for a wining president before next year’s elections," he said.
And chief Hanjalika said pursuing Patriotic Front president Michael Sata now over the US $100,000 was poorly done.
"Whatever they want to do with Mr. Sata, they should have a conscience,” he said. “Let them not be political in the manner they handle it. I wish they can look at it in a much broader way than doing it at this time.”
