A parliamentarian has challenged President Rupiah Banda to reinstate the abuse of office clause in the ACC Act. Wylbur Simuusa, the Nchanga PF parliamentarian, said only guilty people feared the law.
“It is only becoming clear now why President Rupiah Banda and his minions removed the abuse of office clause because there is no honest person who can support the removal of the clause,” Simuusa said in an interview.
He said corruption had flourished in the country because there were people in power who benefitted from the present corrupt system.
Simuusa said in a democratic government, political leaders needed to respect public opinion.
Last year, Parliament voted for the removal of the abuse of office clause from the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Act, and President Banda assented to it.
